CHIPROMS Covid-19 Impact and Response

The corona virus took the world by surprise with a devastating effect around the globe.  It brought about new regulations, restrictions, business closures, travelling bans or limitations, and lock downs.  CHIPROMS was under lockdown from March 23RD, 2020 for a period of five months.  CHIPROMS took every step to protect our children and staff by teaching and training them on safety guidelines and measures.  With the help of caring Nigerians and our friends from Canada, food was stockpiled for the period.  We thank God and happy to announce that to date, all children in our care are safe and there has been no incidence of the virus in the home.  We continue to maintain social distancing with our visitors and guests, masks are worn by children and regular hand washing is currently being practiced.

The children are back in school and our employees are now permitted to continue their rotational shifts.  To limit personal contacts, we have replaced to a large extent face to face meetings with phone calls and follow-ups are also done with calls on phone.  Artisans and trade-workers in the home are always required to wear an overall and mask and to maintain social distance.  God has been good to us at CHIPROMS, PRAISE HIS HOLY NAME- we are constantly praying that the virus will be far away from our home!

The Corona virus has been an invisible crisis to many homes that provides services and care to the vulnerable children.  Usually, our group is the last to be recognized as needing assistance.  Understandably, the effect of the COVID19 pandemic has had severe impact on our support and donations.   We are very grateful to some brave donors who continue to support, dropping off gifts and donations during these hard times.  Some of our donors lost their jobs, others reported losses within the period hence this has affected our finances and food supplies.  We continue to struggle with the impact of the pandemic as we deal with food shortages, and increased school fees. We are left to knock on more doors for help! We need your help NOW to survive and to be able to continue the needed programs, care, and services for the children in our care.   We are making sure that we continue to have access to accurate and up to date information on the virus, access to soap, water and cleaning products to keep our children and staff safe from infection. We are also ensuring that some of the children in our care with underlying illnesses have access to the medication they need for at least the next three months.
